PATRIOT ACT

PEDIGREE UPDATE

The 2007 Pacific Classic-G1 was won by Student Council (Picture Shown below) who is sired by Kingmambo out of Class Kris, who is a half sister to Patriot Act.  The distaff pedigree demonstrates that Patriot Act provides breeders with one of the finest out cross breeding propositions.

PATRIOT ACT was an impressive two year old placing second in the Lane's End Breeders Futurity-G1 at Keeneland. The stakes winning Patriot Act is Grade One, Grade Two and Grade Three Stakes Placed and was most recently a solid closing third in the Grade Two $300,000 Cornhusker Handicap.  That performance pushed his earnings to $452,252.  Patriot Act has taken up residence in New York at Liberty Stud and will begin his stud career in 2008 in the New York Program with the support of William S. Farish of Lane's Farm  who is send as many as ten mares to Patriot Act, a horse that he always felt had great potential as a stallion.

RACE RECORD :  Starts 19 - 4 wins, 6 seconds, 4 thirds - $452,252.

STAKES RECORD :  First Jim Rasmussen Memorial, Second Lane's End Breeders' Futurity-Grade One, New Orleans Handicap-Grade Two, Mineshaft Handicap-Grade Three, Tenacious Handicap, Third Cornhusker Handicap-Grade Two, Louisiana Breeders' Cup Handicap.

PEDIGREE EVALUATION :

Patriot Act has a Dosage Index of 3.50 (DP = 7-3-8-0-0 )) with the CD (Center of Distribution) of .94.  This female family offers one of the best achievements of the lifetime work of Fred Hooper.

MALE LINE:

The first dam of Patriot Act is sired by the speedy and precocious Copelan, a three time Grade One winner in New York as a two year old.  In addition to his Grade One wins in the Hopeful, Futurity and Champagne Stakes, Copelan added another Graded New York victory as a freshman runner in the Sanford Stakes at Saratoga and notched the Hollywood Preview stakes in his two year old campaign.

Copelan possesses a Dosage Index of 4,00, the mark of a sprinter.  However, Copelan was very much in the classic picture as a three year old with a victory in the Grade Two Fountain of Youth and a second in the Grade One Florida Derby and a third in the Grade One Blue Grass stakes, but Coplan was really more about speed then classic distance racing.  Copelan did run third in the Grade Two Jerome and went to stud at Mr. Hooper's Farm where he lived until he was 14 years old. Copelan's dam was the great Champion Susan's Girl, herself a remarkable sound and versatile racemare whose achievements include Champion 3yo filly 1972, Champion older mare 1973 & 1975, inducted into TB Hall of Fame in 1976 and was the first Filly/Mare to earn over $1 million.

Susan's Girl's race record reads as follows:

The second broodmare sire is Crozier, also raced by Mr. Hooper, just like Copelan, Susan's Girl and Quaze Quilt. Crozier was the chief rival of Carry Back and the Fred Hooper warrior did battle over four grueling seasons.  Crozier's impressive race record demonstrates soundness and toughness so rare in today's runners.

FEMALE LINE:

When the female lines of the distinguished Fred Hooper  family Classic Value began to be bred to Kentucky Stallions, the outcross breeding patterns continued to produce prominent racehorses.  Mr. Hooper bred Class Kris (Kris S.), a daughter of Classic Value who won the Black Helen (G2) and other graded stakes and earned $582,129.  When Class Kris was bred to A. P. Indy (Farish and Goodman Breeders) the result was Risen Star-G3 stakes winner Gradepoint thus demonstrating a solid affinity of this female family for the A. P. Indy sire line.  When Class Kris was bred to Kingmambo (W. S. Farish Breeder) the result was stakes winner Student Council, winner of the 2007 Grade One Pacific Classic who has additional graded stakes placing demonstrating a strong affinity with the Mr. Prospector line.

The stakes placed Fred Hooper bred Class on Class, another daughter of Classic Value found her way into the book of the A. P. Indy stallion, Stephen Got Even.  Don't Get Mad, a winner of the Grade Two Indiana Derby and $793,835 was the result further emphasizing the strong affinity with A. P. Indy and this distaff line.

The stakes placed Classic Approval, yet another Fred Hooper bred daughter of Classic Value proved her affinity with the Mr. Prospector line by producing Gulch Approval (Farish and Hendry Breeders) when bred to Gulch, he a Grade Three stakes winner and earner of $593,004 who was also grade one placed.  When Classic Approval (Farish and Hendry Breeders) was bred to Lemon Drop Kid, a Mr. Prospector line stallion from the female family of A. P. Indy, the result is the current stakes winner Approval Rating with earning over $190.000 to date.  This shows that the combination of A. P. Indy and Mr. Prospector is somewhat magical with this distaff line.

There is no surprise that considering the involvement of noted breeder Will Farish with this strong Hooper family, that Mr. Farish has retained a strong significant interest in Patriot Act, a horse that he has campaigned and admired during his racing career. It is also no surprise that considering his respect for the tenacity of Patriot Act, that Mr. Farish is going to send a significant number of Lane's End mares to the book of Patriot Act while at stud in New York.

We really do not need to go past the first dam but this is the female family of Coaching Club American Oaks winners Willamette, etc. and Bateau, etc., Acorn Stakes winner Three Ring, etc.,  Manassa Mauler winner of the Wood Memorial, etc., Oil Capital winner of the Flamingo, etc.

BREEDING SUGGESTIONS:

Both Seattle Slew and Mr. Prospector descend from the foundation matriarch, Myrtlewood.  Indeed, Myrtlewood is the fourth dam of Mr. Prospector and the fifth dam of Seattle Slew.  One must attribute the fantastic results attained with Seattle Slew's most remarkable son, A. P. Indy when bred to Mr. Prospector line mares to this well known inbreeding pattern.  When bred to actual daughters of Mr. Prospector, A. P. Indy has sired, Mineshaft (Horse of the Year), Tempera (Champion Filly at Two), Pulpit (Bluegrass Stakes, etc and a leading sire), Tomisues Delight (winner of 3 Grade One races), and other stakes winners Congrats, Daydreaming, A. P. Arrow, Accelerator, Snake Mountain, With Ability, Glia, Rock Slide, Strategy, Spin Control, and La Reina.  When A. P. Indy is crossed with the Mr. Prospector line through Fappiano, his best progeny include Bernardini (Champion and Classic Winner) and A. P. Adventure (G1) and A. P. Warrior (G2).  Other notable results of introducing the Mr. Prospector line with A. P Indy include Jilbab (G1) through Machiavellian and Sweet Symphony (G1) through Distinctive Pro.  There are also many stakes winners when Seeking the Gold mares have been mated with A. P. Indy to include Lu Ravi (G2), Boca Grande (G2), Catch the Thrill (Champion Two Year Old Filly in Canada), Sahara Heat (G3)Ender's Shadow Crystal Current

There is also a strong cross with the Alydar line as is evidenced with the A. P. Indy progeny with that cross of Secret Status (G1), A. P. Valentine (G1), Alumni Hall (G3), Fish Pond (G3), and Aurora (G1) (second dam by Alydar).

I must also of course point out the remarkable affinity for stakes production for A. P. Indy with mares from the Northern Dancer line stallions highlighted by the Immortal Rags to Riches (Belmont Stakes-G1, Kentucky Oaks- G1, etc.) and the hot young stallion Jump Start.

Patriot Act in general offers an excellent opportunity for successful matings because of his outcross sire lines and how well his female family has crossed with various popular stallions.  When that consideration is couple with the fact that Patriot Act is a son A. P. Indy. the most prominent stallion in virtually all categories in North America today, it seems that he is destined to be a success at stud.

AVAILABILITY:

Patriot Act is totally syndicated.  Seasons and season packages will be available to breeders.  We will continue to focus on Mr. Prospector line mares to be bred to Patriot Act by encouraging breeders to consider the strong nicking patterns that the A. P. Indy - Mr. Prospector cross provides, demonstrated once again in this year's Hopeful Stakes- G1 at Saratoga by the smashing victory of Majestic Warrior who is by A. P. Indy out of Dream Supreme by Seeking the Gold.
