Breeding to Sun King:

Because of his female family, it is somewhat apparent daughters of Cryptoclearance (Traitor's Sire) and his sons, like Victory Gallop, Crypto Star, Ride the Rails and Millennium Wind and also Quiet American (American Bertie's) and whatever sons he has suit Sun King's pedigree very well  Good things have happened when Fappiano has been introduced into the distaff side of Sun King's pedigree.

Even though there was a good horse by Storm Boot, I do not see any evidence that would make me want to inbreed to Storm Bird so  advise that breeders stay away from Storm Cat and Storm Bird in the pedigree selection of mares.  Also I suggest that you avoid any inbreeding to Shenanigans as it seems that there are  many runner that are not good from that cross.  I notice that although a third cross of Somethingroyal has worked somewhat okay with Grand Lodge, there is no real significance with Charismatic.  It just does little to enhance a  mating with Sun King so we might just as well stay away from it.

I would also request that you avoid the A.P. Indy line mares through him or his sons.  I see no special justification to inbreed using Summer Squall and A.P. Indy to reinforce Weekend Surprise of Lassie Dear.  That goes for the other sires in the A.P. Indy distaff family tree.

The presence of Peeping Tom in the distaff line makes Danzig line mares attractive to Sun King.  Avoid of course the distaff inbreeds of Shenanigans and Somethingroyal when making the selection.   The evidence of the good horses in the distaff pedigree of Sun King make certain commonly found broodmares available to easily to build him a good book based on broodmare sires.  The Northern Dancer / Mr. Prospector cross I advance will work well especially if you can make it the Danzig / Fappiano cross in the mare selection.

The concept of attracting a significant percentage of mares with certain criteria to build a book will provide Sun King with matings that will enhance his chances of success.

It is always advisable in my judgment to find a good percentage of starters from foals and winners from foals produced in your selection process in the first two dams of course and even in the third dam.  It always seems to me that there is logic behind the presumption that getting to the races and winning is genetic.  I see no reason to discard that presumption.

The incorporation of providing a substantial number of the breeding patterns suggested herein demonstrates a sincerity effort on the part of Darby Dan and Tracy Farmer, that the concept of mare selection takes priority in the process of make Sun King a success at stud.

In my judgment Sun King, because of his durability and versatility will do the rest if provided him an intelligently selected group of mares.  He has enough going for him to make a good stallion or even better than that level.
