1998 Stallion by Rizzi out of Valid Blend by Valid Appeal |

|
RICHLY BLENDED demonstrated brilliant speed during his
racing days. He is also blessed with exceptional conformation and a strong
competitive spirit. Multiple graded stakes winner Richly Blended has a
wonderful disposition and is five generations free from any inbreeding. The
perfectly named Richly Blended embodies two of the strongest influences of
the Florida Thoroughbred during the 20th century in that his sire line is
that of Mr. Prospector, and his dam is daughter of Valid Appeal.
RACING AND PEDIGREE ANALYSIS
Richly Blended was never further back then third at
any point of call in any of his races prior to his Preakness. He was injured
in the Preakness but led the race into the far turn. In the Wood Memorial he
lead into the far turn before being beaten by Congaree and Monarchos. In all
of his other races which were contested at a mile and under, he seldom
relinquished the lead and then for only a step or two. He even posted a
remarkable 103 Beyer number in his first start, a race which he won by
almost three seconds. That Beyer number is rarely seen in a first start by
any horse.
Many breeder contend that excellent milers make
excellent stallions. Richly Blended’s win in the prestigious one mile Gotham
Stakes at Aqueduct in New York put his name next to such racing luminaries
as Native Dancer, Jaipur, Dr. Fager, Secretariat, Gone West and Easy Goer
who were also winners of this race. His victory in the historic one mile
Withers Stakes also run in New York put his name on an illustrious list of
winners of that race, many of which were champions and influential sires.
The stellar list of Withers Stakes winners including Domino, Colin, Sir
Barton, Man o’ War, Blue Larkspur, Menow, Alsab, Count Fleet, Polynesian,
Hill Prince, Native Dancer, Jaipur, Dr. Fager, Ack Ack, Bold Reasoning, Key
to the Mint, and Gone West. These great authoritative stakes wins by Richly
Blended in the Gotham and Withers, both mile races, are testamony to the
racing class of this truly brilliant speedster.
Richly Blended’s Dosage Profile is 8-2-6-0-0 (16); his
Dosage Index is 4.33; and his Center of Distribution is 1.13. His go to the
front racing style and his dosage information indicate that he is truly a
brilliant type. A breeder can easily design a mating that would produce
fast, precocious offspring that should be devastating running at distances
from one inch to one mile.
Northern Dancer and In Reality are present in the
pedigree of Richly Blended and are excellent choices to inbreed to, when the
breeder wishes to enhance the desirable dosage trait of brilliant-classic.
Inbreeding to the brilliant Raise a Native, another fine choice, has proven
to be the second best inbreeding pattern in the North America for the modern
thoroughbred exceeded only by inbreeding to the brilliant-classic Northern
Dancer. Unfortunately however, inbreeding to the Brilliant-Classic Mr.
Prospector, who is also present in Richly Blended’s pedigree, has shown poor
statistical results so the breeder is advised to stay away from the Mr.
Prospector inbreeding. There is also however, the possibility of inbreeding
to the Intermediate-Classic sires Native Dancer, Nashua, Tom Fool and Sir
Ivor. It is not difficult to create a mating along such inbreeding patterns
that would extend the ability of Richly Blended’s offspring to cover a route
of ground. Seattle Slew also would be an excellent cross with Richly Blended
since both Mr. Prospector and Seattle Slew descend from foundation mare
Myrtlewood.
Richly Blended’s sire is the highly successful Rizzi,
sire of the earners of $2,586,889 in 2001. Rizzi has recently been moved
into New York State to take advantage of that state’s rich program. Richly
Blended’s grandsire is Champion Afleet who is sire of at least 50 stakes
winners and is currently a leading sire in Japan. In fact he was the fourth
leading sire in Japan in 2001 with progeny earnings of 2,205,536,000 Yen.
Afleet was second only to Sunday Silence in number of wins and winners among
the top ten sires in Japan in 2001.
The remarkable Valid Appeal is the sire of more than
80 stakes winners. He is also a perennial leading broodmare sire. His
daughters have produced more than 70 stakes winners including champion
Perfect Sting and several other grade one winners and champions including
Jersey Girl, Halo’s Image and Val’s Prince.
Great front runners such as Bold Ruler, Dr. Fager, and
Seattle Slew were leading sires and all had that desire to be in front at
every point of call. There can no question that strong front runners with
true stakes class make great stallions. Richly Blended will offer California
Breeders a lot of stallion potential at an extremely reasonable stud fee.
