RACE RECORD:
Illinois Derby-G2 winner Vision and Verse proved
his quality on the national scene with excellent runner up performances in
the Grade One Belmont Stakes and Grade One Travers Stakes. In those
races Eclipse Champion Lemon Drop Kid was narrowly able to hold off the
valiant efforts of Vision and Verse. Vision and Verse certainly proved
that he was one of America's best three year olds of 1999. Vision and
Verse also added placings in the Grade One Jockey Club Gold Cup and Grade
Two Meadowlands Cup as well as a placing in the Grade Three Flamingo
Stakes and Skip Away Handicap.
In 21 starts, Vision and Verse earned $1,030,330
and was on the board in seven graded stakes races while competing at
racetracks all over the eastern United States.
PEDIGREE ANALYSIS:
The Dosage information
is as follows: DP = 5-8-10-0-1 DI = 3.00 CD =
0.67
It is not necessary to extol the
virtues of the world's premier sire STORM CAT, the sire of Vision and Verse.
There is no son of the premier sire at stud, who demonstrated so much
classic ability on the track who is at stud available for such a reasonable
stud fee.
Vision and Verse is the first
foal of the Grade One stakes placed performer Bunting. This is the
female family of the Greentree Stud foundation mare Bebop II. The
familiar names of the significant stakes winners Stop the Music, Hatchet
Man, Yanks Music, Buckaroo and more than 20 other stakes horses descended
directly from the foundation mare Bebop II.
The sire lines of the female
family of Vision and Verse are pure and include only the most solid group of
great runners. Of the seven stallions in the first four generations,
only the highly successful sire Private account is not a champion.
Damascus, Buckpasser, Sword Dancer, Hoist the Flag, Tom Rolfe and Tom Fool
are all champions.
BREEDING TO VISION AND
VERSE: Vision and
Verse seems like an easy horse to mate mares to which in and of itself is an
indication that a stallion will be successful at stud. Crossing Mr.
Prospector mares with Storm Cat is one of the most successful nicks in the
industry. It would seem that daughters of sons of Mr. Prospector will
work well, especially when the pedigree also contains Northern Dancer.
This makes the Mr. Prospector-Northern Dancer line mare the ideal nick for
Vision and Verse. Keep in mind that inbreeding to Northern Dancer is
the most successful inbreed in the industry. It is easy to get a great
nick rating with many of the most common strains of American bloodlines.
Inbreeding to Hoist the Flag, Buckpasser and Damascus are also good crosses.
There appears be very few bad choices and many excellent ones when it comes
to mare selection with Vision and Verse.
Precocious mares would be a good choice since Vision
and Verse showed only one start as a two. Also, Vision and Verse
demonstrated his ability in classic events and has an Average Winning
Distance (AWD) of 8.63. Still, with so many successful two year old
runners in his overall sire lines and in his female family, that even that
suggestion may not be entirely a valid presumption.
In five generations, only Tom Fool appears as a
common ancestor and then only on the distaff side of the pedigree as 5D x
4D. Essentially, breed what you want to Vision and Verse and there
should be no pitfalls. |
