I want to devote some thought to the concept of
sharing the wealth in our industry. We need to fight for the folks who
work day in, day out, week in, week out, 365 days a year. We have to
improve the lives of those working in our business and share prosperity when
it comes our way.
It seems somehow a bit crazy when a groom at a track
in North America or Europe or anywhere is personally caring for a horse that
has gotten to be worth about ten or twenty million dollars or more, and that
groom is not earning enough money to take care of his family. I sometimes
wonder how the owners of such a wonderful racehorse can sleep at night
knowing that such a situation exists. Well, maybe some owners don't realize
such a problem exists and this thought will keep them up at night.
We are not alone in the history of the world in facing
problems. It is certainly always timely to get involved and fight to
make everything we can about our industry the best it can be.
We have a great many problems facing our industry.
If we think about them we can solve them. Make a personal heroic and
symbolic effort to make things change for the better. You really don't
need to be Superman to help.
Remember, "The Time is Always Now."
